When Adam is Tired

He's mean! The days when he wakes up before 7am Adam is not a very pleasant person. He's whiny, crabby, and does not listen to me at all. And I kept saying it was because he didn't get enough sleep and since he's been sleeping until 7am lately it's proven that that is why he's acting that way. Here are some examples from today...

I asked him to put his clothes on this morning and he spit in my face! Not spit really but did a raspberry thing so got spit on my face. He got a time out for that one!

MeMaw said he was going to get in trouble for acting that way and he said, "I don't care."

On the way to Grandma and Papa's for Christmas I told him he needed to go to sleep or he wouldn't get Christmas presents from them and again he said, "I don't care." Today was the first day I've heard him every say that he didn't care and I don't like it!

And his new thing to tell Bradley all the time is "I don't like you." We're trying to get him to say what he means instead of that, because that is really mean. For example, we said he could say, "I need some space." or "I want Mommy to do it." Hopefully he'll get through this phase soon. Or at least start sleeping more!

Christmas at Grandma and Papa Nave's

The 27th was a rough day but we made it through. Ellie did not sleep at all the night before, literally up every 20-30 minutes, all night long and Adam woke up at 530am so our kids were exhausted to say the least, on top of being in the car a lot and the excitement of Christmas. Luckily we were coming home today too. We started the morning at Grandma Jo and Poppy's where we had spent the night. Poor Bradley had to pack everything up in the pouring rain. Then we headed to Grandma and Papa Nave's for Christmas there. Adam got to play with his cousins and Ellie was whiny from not feeling well (teeth) and being tired but sure enjoyed watchign the other kids. But after a fun few hours we decided the kids were worn out and we headed home. I love visiting family but it is so hard traveling with two kids, especially when it's raining and you're all really tired. I was so glad to be home, except now the aftermath of Christmas is driving me crazy!

Christmas at Grandma Jo and Poppy's

The 26th started our first trip back. There are so many people to see. It's not very fun to only spend a couple hours at one place before putting the kids back in the car to head off to another but I guess it's good we get to see everyone, if only for a little while. We actually went to Grandmommy's first but for some reason didn't get any pictures there. (Mom, you'll have to send me the ones you got!) Then we headed to Grandma Jo and Poppy's in the afternoon. Everyone did way more than they should have and we had a very fun day.

Christmas Day at Home

Since we've had kids we made our own tradition of staying home on Christmas day. Christmas Eve we went to mass and then got the kids down as early as we could since I still had lots of wrapping to do. We put one special present under the tree in Adam's room and that's pretty much all he cared about after that. He thought all the presents under the tree in the living room were for Bradley and me. It ended up taking him eight hours to open up all his gifts. He wanted to open every one and play with it and kept saying, "I'll open those later." So we just let him go at his own pace and when he wanted to open one we let him. Ellie didn't really get it yet but she did help open her presents. She loved ripping the paper and playing with it and really enjoyed playing with the toys she got. She's teething though and not sleeping well so she was tired. But it was a great Christmas anyway. Bradley and I even ended up having a good day and getting special gifts as well.

Tooth #2

I left yesterday for an hour or so and when I got home Bradley said Ellie was really cranky the whole time. I thought it was because of her teeth and sure enough when I checked a little bit ago she has her other bottom tooth!

On another note...Adam is not himself today. He's being good! When I asked him to stop something earlier he goes, "Ok. I won't do that anymore." And every time I've asked him to do something today he just says ok and gets up and does it. He doesn't even argue with me. He even ate a whole banana for lunch with his chicken nuggets without a fight! Now he's napping, and so is Ellie, so I've got to get some presents wrapped or they'll never be ready for the tree on Thursday!

Ellie's Waving?!

Ellie is definitely waving. She doesn't really know that it means hello or goodbye but if you wave to her she'll reciprocate the action.

We also think she's saying "mama". First she was just making that sound. Now she'll be on the floor or in her entertainer or somewhere and I'll walk by and not pick her up so she'll start crying and saying "mama". She is also making the "baba" sound but not in relation to her bottle yet.

Her favorite thing now is to sit on the floor (yes she's sitting up on her own too!) and play with her toys. She rocks back and forth when she sees Adam or the cat because she wants so badly to get to them. I guess now we need to get her on her belly more so she can figure out how to crawl. I'm thinking in another month to two months she'll be crawling all around. Adam was crawling at 7 1/2 months but Ellie has more desire to so she may do it sooner.

Adam's Going to Preschool

I don't remember if I wrote about this already so I'm just doing it again.

Adam is starting preschool in January. He is so excited. When we went and toured the place he was in there playing by himself after only a couple minutes, which if you know him is really good. He didn't want to leave that day. We went back a couple days later to bring his paperwork in and he got to go see the playground and of course didn't want to leave again. I feel so weird saying my son is going to preschool already. I know it's not really "school" b/c he's only in the two year old room but it's still going to feel weird dropping him off somewhere for 2 1/2 hours. The only thing was that the only opening they had was in the afternoon so he'll have to miss his naps on those days. But I think he'll be okay and we'll just put him to bed early those nights. The director said that for next year we could consider putting him in an older class besides the three year old class since he's already ahead in the learning aspect and already knows what they would be doing. I am hoping to do that so that he can do the letter of the week or day (not sure what they do) and work more on that stuff instead of doing colors, shapes, etc. that he would do in the other room. I must say that I feel kind of sad already thinking about dropping him off at "school" but it'll be nice to only have one kid for awhile, who will be napping anyway, so I can have time to myself and hopefully become a better housewife!

Ellie's First Tooth!

Ellie's first tooth popped through today. I couldn't tell last night if it was through yet or not but today I'm pretty sure it is. I can barely see it poking through her gums. Now I'm wondering if part of her illness this past week has been because of her teething or a bug. I'm sure she wasn't vomiting because of her teeth so she probably had some bug but the fussiness and diarrhea could have been from both I guess. She seemed better yesterday and is eating really well today but is still very fussy today. She's also sleeping a lot today so I'm hoping this is the end of her being sick and we are all healthy for a while.

It's Not Over...

Ellie puked again today. And now I've got a little bit of it. Plus Bradley has a sore throat so I hope we're not starting in on another illness. I feel like we've been sick a lot and we're hardly into winter. Hopefully we get over this fast and are all healthy, at least for the holidays.

Ellie's First Illness - And Another Puking Incident

Ellie had been really fussy all week and then Thursday night we had more nasty vomit to clean up ...all over her bed. It wasn't enough for Adam to puke in his carseat so Ellie had to join in too. She's hasn't thrown up since but now has moved on to nasty, smelly, squirt out my diaper diarrhea. She isn't eating much so I'm watching her for dehydration but I think she's slowly on the mend. She ate a little more than yesterday. Now, if I can keep myself from getting it that would be great, considering every other family has had it.

Bradley the Barber

I finally let Bradley cut Adam's hair tonight. The last time we took him to get it cut at a salon they did a horrible job. I was very upset and figured Bradley couldn't do any worse! It turned out good and I can now save $10 every time Adam needs a haircut, which seems to be every couple weeks.

Bradley is Finally Finished!

With this semester. He had his final tonight and I can't wait for him to be home more now. He can see his kids more and we can actually have a warm freshly made dinner instead of leftovers every night. Except now he's working overtime at work for the next few weeks at least but he'll still be home earlier than if he had class and since I'm used to him being gone late he might as well get some extra time in.

I finally went back to the gym today. I decided to suck it up and take the kids to the nursery. They were fine for the first 20 minutes and then Ellie started crying so Adam did too. I got Adam calmed down and Ellie cried when I held her. It was because she was tired so I let the lady hold her and she got her to sleep in a couple minutes. If they would have cried for a long time I would have left but I ended up getting a total of 35 minutes in so that was pretty good. I'm going to have to work my way up to an hour or so because I don't think the kids will last that long yet. I am so out of shape again. My legs are killing me tonight just from that short workout. However, I knew I wouldn't get to work out very long so I kept upping the level. I plan on going back Friday morning and we'll see how they do then. It makes me feel so much better when I can work out in the morning though. I had so much more energy today and didn't even think about a nap. I got the thousands of clothes folded that have been lying around for a week, cleaned up, swept the kitchen, and did a few things on the computer I needed to work on. So it was a more productive day than usual thanks to my being brave and hitting the gym!

Gingerbread Houses

We went to the Mills mall on Tuesday to make gingerbread houses out of graham crackers and frosting. Adam didn't want anything to do with it this year. He just ate the frosting and candy. Last year he really did good but this year he just wandered around while I did it. Then the house broke before we even made it to the car so it ended up in the trash. But I got a picture first.

Celebration of Lights Walk Through

We went to the walk thru night to see the Christmas lights at the park. It had to be the worst night for it but they only have one night where you can walk it. So...into the freezing wind and rain we went! It was miserable but we made the best of it and hope to keep it an annual tradition. Bradley took Adam last year but I missed it b/c I had class so this year I was excited. I meant to bring the sling for Ellie but we forgot it but she did really well sitting up in the wagon, propped up with lots of blankets of course! Adam had a blast and didn't seem to mind the weather. He did say he was cold once but that was it. He just grinned and laughed the entire time. Along with the lights they had a real reindeer and Santa and Mrs. Claus were there. Adam wouldn't go near Santa, just looked from afar, but he sure checked out the reindeer.

First Vomit Incidence

Adam has puked before but nothing this gross.

We were driving back Saturday to my sister's and from the minute we put him in the car Adam was complaining that it was too hot. He's been doing this for the last month or so but I just usually ignored him b/c it would be 30 degrees outside and he would say he was hot. After him crying and complaining for an hour he puked all over himself and his carseat! It was the most disgusting thing, mostly because it was pears and sour milk. So we had to stop at a gas station, change his clothes in the freezing cold wind, then spend a half hour taking his car seat apart and cleaning it in the gas station bathroom. It was not pleasant! Then we had to drive the rest of the way with his window down and the smell of vomit in the car.

We thought at first maybe he was car sick. But later that night I felt a little sick but got better after I ate. Then Sunday Bradley and I both felt sick off and on but never puked. Bradley even came home from work yesterday b/c he felt nauseous. So maybe we just have a little bug or something. I think Adam is finally better. Today was the first day this week he didn't complain about his belly hurting.

Adam and Ellie Hanging Out

December 5, 2008

Some random pictures of Adam. One is of his "magic wand" he begged for in WalMart yesterday. One is just is cute naked bottom and his cute smile. And the other one...Bradley pointed out his soccer ornament on the tree and Adam ran and got his soccer ball, then ran and got the camera, brought it back to Bradley and asked him to take a picture.

More PAT Holiday Event

PAT Holiday Event

This was the PAT event we go to every year to see Santa. Adam is still scared of Santa, as you can see! Ellie didn't mind one bit. Adam got to do some crafts, pretend to make Christmas cookies, decorate a giant gingerbread man, and many more fun activities.

Peas Are Yummy!

Ellie likes peas! Yeah! I was worried about the green veggies so decided to try peas which Bradley and Adam both hate. But Ellie didn't make a face or anything. Just kept opening her mouth for more. What a good girl!

The Mouth

Ellie can now get things into her mouth as of yesterday. That's helpful for her since she's teething but unfortunately we've got to get Adam to learn to keep his toys away from her. Today she had one of his cars, a little hot wheels one, and had the tiny wheels in her mouth. That's a no-no now I guess. I didn't realize she was actually putting things in her mouth intentionally until that moment. Pretty soon she'll have her pincer grasp and be feeding herself food! They sure grow up fast.

Winter Crafts

Adam had his first experience with glitter today making snowflakes to hang on the window in his room. They turned out pretty good. Here's a picture of Ellie's "craft"...we made her handprints like we did for Adam's first Christmas. The picture isn't the greatest but you can kind of tell what it looks like.
