Eleanor Grace Nave

Ellie has arrived! She was born Friday, June 27, at 3:51pm weighing in at 7lb 8oz, and 21 inches long. It only took about 6 1/2 hours from the time I started the pitocin to the time she was born, a quick and speedy delivery! She is nursing wonderfully so far for which I am thankful and hopeful that it continues to go so well once we are home.

Speaking of which, we're going home in just a few hours. My doc was going to let us leave yesterday but the pediatrician wanted Ellie to stay until this morning so she could see her one more time and to make sure her feeding was well established before I go home and have no one to help me, not that I've used any help really while we've been here. But that's okay. I got some sleep last night...I sucked it up and let the nurses take Ellie out for a few hours so I think I actually slept for 5 or 6 hours.

I'm feeling great. I'm up and dressed today and even wearing a little makeup, which if you know me I don't do often! Yesterday my cramping was a little more painful but so far today it's not too bad.

Well, Ellie's waking up so I need to go feed her. We'll get some pictures put up on here probably later today and we'll be emailing them out for sure.

I'm Being Induced!

I had my checkup this afternoon and am now 3cm. He said the baby is feeling pretty big. I told him I was worried about that because I didn't want her to get so big that I wouldn't be able to have her. Plus I didn't want to be in the hospital over the 4th so he asked if I wanted to be induced and I said yes. I am so relieved knowing that it's finally happening. Now to get everything done before Friday morning!

New Train Table and a New Set of Teeth

We went shopping this weekend and decided to get Adam a train table finally. He was sort of off the train thing for awhile but is now very back into them. It was a good purchase and will be something that will get good use. Plus, the other side of the top is a drawing board, I think dry erase, so even if he gets over the train obsession he can still use it, as well as our daughter if she's not into trains.

We were on a walk the other night with the neighbors and found a turtle. Adam enjoyed touching it and likes to run across the street every night to see it.

So I know most of you know that Adam has been quite a handful lately. He hasn't been sleeping well or eating well and has been a horrible listener and helper. Today he woke up at 545am and I got him back to bed. He ended up sleeping until 720 and has been in the best mood ever today! I knew he wasn't getting enough sleep. Today he's listened to everything I've asked and has eaten two big meals. Then we were playing around and I saw in his mouth that he has his top left second molar! The right one is just coming through so along with not getting enough sleep I'm sure that hasn't been feeling good. I'm sure the bottom ones are close behind but I don't feel them quite yet. I'm glad to know though that his attitude lately probably isn't all because of him being two...I'm telling myself it's partly because of his teeth too. I know they don't feel good coming in.

We went to dinner last night at Ethyl's, one of our favorite places to eat. They have a playground outside so we enjoy sitting out there when we can. Last night was even better because we didn't know they had live music from 6-10. The weather was perfect and Adam had a blast being independent enough to walk from our table to the playground and back. It's a little more difficult to get him to eat his dinner but he did pretty good last night. He even ate two baby carrots. Yes, carrots! And if you know him at all you know that he doesn't eat a single vegetable in the world. He made a face when he bit into them but he didn't try to spit them out. I was very proud of him! He even asked for them all by himself which was even better!

On my front...nothing new. Hardly any contractions lately but the few I do have are much stronger than last week's. It's getting harder and harder to sleep. I think I'd probably get more sleep with a newborn here than I'm getting right now. But I know...she'll come when she's ready, as I've been told a thousand times! I have a checkup Wednesday afternoon so we'll see if there are any changes.

June 21, 2008

Still very pregnant.

Here I am at almost 39 weeks.

This is a picture that Adam took...I'm kinda scary from his point of view!

Adam got a haircut today. He was really good and sat very still, unlike the last few times! I had them go a little shorter than usual but I like it. Not sure what this face is about either. He really was smiling but it doesn't look like it. He was trying to eat his sucker at the same time.

Playing trains in his room.

So today and yesterday I haven't had many contractions. My swelling is also back today. I seem to be going backwards! I know she'll come when she's ready but we sure are ready for her to get here soon!

We're going to a bbq this afternoon for our friends that are moving to New Mexico. It should be fun and hopefully the storms they're calling for hold off until later. Although maybe the change in pressure will make my water break?? My doctor said sometimes that happens! This was the first Saturday in awhile I woke up in a really good mood. I also had a lot of energy and spent an hour or so cleaning the kitchen really good as well as picking up the house. Maybe my nesting has started which is a good sign!

Today Adam was touching my belly and I asked him what was in there. He said "baby". Then I said what kind of baby? And he said, "girl". He usually says he doesn't know or a boy so that was good. Then I asked him what we should name her and without even giving him choices he said the name that we're pretty sure we're going to use. I guess now we'll have to use it since that's what is in Adam's mind. I've never heard him talk that much about the baby before so that was exciting for me. But sorry...we're not telling the name yet!

I'm Giving Up

I went to the doctor today just to get things checked out since a lot of the symptoms I had yesterday were similar to preeclampsia. And I'm just paranoid! Everything is good though. Still all the same...2 cm and she's still floating but he said I'm getting close, whatever that means! I lost weight this time though because my swelling has gone down quite a bit. I'm happy for that anyway! I've decided that I'm giving up trying to make things happen though. Maybe if I just stop thinking about it (MUCH easier said than done) and quit trying she'll decide to come. I figure she's probably waiting until next week when my friend Sarah (my middle-of-the-night-babysitter) or Gina is gone since they are both gone part of next week. At least their trips don't overlap!

We're going to a going away party tomorrow for my friend Jen and Adam's friend Brady. They're moving to New Mexico. Then I think we may go shopping. We decided to spend a little of our stimulus check money so that should be fun. No other big plans really. I think Bradley wants to mow and work on the deck, etc. I'm hoping to have a baby!

Baby Update

Last night I started having contractions that were 10-15 minutes apart from about 630pm to about 1230am. Then I decided to try and sleep and they slowed down and went away.

Then today... My morning was alright...no big contractions or anything. Then around 1pm I started to get them every 10-15 minutes. I also got a huge migraine, kept getting dizzy, was nauseous, very tense and ended up having a fever as well. I felt like I had the flu or something. So, thanks to my nurse friend Jennifer who informed me I should call because you shouldn't have a fever. They said it could just be a viral thing since they are going around or it could be something else (I don't remember what she called it). I took a bath to try and relax and that stopped my contractions for about a half hour. Then we went on a walk and they seemed to be back to back and never ending when I was up moving around. However, when I sat down they would spread back out. Anyhow...I took one Tylenol which helped tremendously and brought my fever down but now I have to watch it I guess when the Tylenol wears off and go to the hospital if it gets up to 101. I decided to take a shower and sit down and see what happens with my contractions and so far I'm still having them about 8-12 minutes apart. I'm still hoping something happens tonight and I don't have to go through the day tomorrow that I had today! Just wanted to update you all.

I did take Adam to Playtime this morning for about an hour so he could get out. There was hardly anyone there and I think he would have had more fun if we had done something with one of his friends but they were all busy. At least he got out to do something though. My friend Ronda ran by this afternoon and so generously dropped off dinner for us. I was very thankful and don't know what I'd do this time around without this great group of friends!

Yes...I'm Complaining Again!

So I'm getting really bored being home so much lately and feel like a bad mom and wife because I haven't been doing anything! I pretty much sit around all day except for when I'm walking trying to put myself into labor. I have cooked dinner a couple times but then I don't do dishes or clean up. Today and yesterday I've been a little down and today I feel kinda sick for some reason. I keep getting nauseous. I've had quite a few contractions today but nothing real or regular. I cut my finger last night and didn't even know it until I saw the blood because that's how swollen my hands are. I spend half the day not feeling them. I slept maybe about 2 or 3 hours the past two nights because even that is impossible no matter how or where I sleep.

Yesterday I did take Adam outside to play with his friend that lives across the street so at least he had some interaction with someone besides my lazy self or the tv! Today we met my good friend Sarah and her daughter, Adam's good friend Leah, for coffee and smoothies at Maui Wowi so Adam got to go out today too. Tomorrow I'm thinking of taking him maybe to Playtime so he can run around a little more and I can easily watch him. That way at least he's gotten out a couple times this week. He still has slight diarrhea but it's getting better so I'm chancing him being around other kids. Friday he has a doctor's appointment to get his ears checked again so hopefully that will be okay. That's his outing for the day for Friday even though it's not much fun for him!

Anyway, that's all my miserable self has to say today I guess.

Update...

So I'm now about 2cm but still very high and not effaced or anything else. Could still be awhile. He said to keep walking and moving around. Adam and I walked this morning and I walked around tonight as well. I guess that's good there's some progress but it's not fast enough for me! I gained another 8 pounds in a week which is horrible considering most people don't gain anything more from here on out. However, that tells you how bad my swelling is! I think I've gained 20 or 30 pounds just in the last month. I know it's at least 20-something, probably closer to 30. Anyway...that's where we're at. He asked if I was induced with Adam, which I wasn't, but maybe if I'm still hanging on next week he'll consider it? Except I don't know that I want to do that.

This Weekend

This weekend was busy it seems. The highlights include...
--Adam's new fascination with the movie Cars. Friday night was fun because Adam actually laid in bed with us and watched the movie...our first real "movie night". We let him stay up until 930 and enjoyed some tasty snacks and the movie. We have since watched it about three or four more times but Bradley and I really like it too. So far anyway...until I've seen it a thousand times! We tried a movie night once before but he sat for about two minutes and then was just running around playing. This time he watched for probably 45 minutes or so until we turned it off and made him go to bed. Then Saturday we let him stay up a little later to watch some of the movie Monster's Inc. He didn't enjoy it as much as other movies but he watched it for a little while. And last night we stayed up until around 9 watching Cars again. (Yes, he's been watching quite a bit of TV lately but that's what happens when baby #2 is on the way and you're sick! Things will get better!)
--Adam took his first shower this weekend. He was a little cautious the first night but the next night he wanted to take another one. Bradley gets in with him because he has to hold him up so the water isn't spraying right in his face but he sure thinks he's so big because he can take showers now! And I like it because it means I'm not on my knees giving him a bath!
--Father's Day...Bradley got up early to try and get an oil change in his car. We went to church at 10am and then were planning on going to lunch but decided to let Adam come take a nap first. Instead we went out for dinner. We tried Red Lobster but they were packed so we ended up at Olive Garden where I had some delicious Chicken Alfredo. Overall it was a good day. We just enjoyed time together as a family.
--The only damper on the weekend was that we thought Adam was getting sick. Last Wednesday and pretty much once an afternoon everyday thereafter he had diarrhea. But it was only once a day and he acted fine the rest of the time. However, he hadn't been eating good and was taking really long naps so we wondered if he was coming down with something. At dinner last night he wouldn't eat anything at all and then had an almost blowout diaper when we were leaving. Hence the reason he wouldn't eat I guess! When we put him to bed he said his belly hurt. Then this morning he's had diarrhea five times already by noon. I got him to sleep about 45 minutes ago so I'm hoping he can at least sleep for awhile before he goes again. He's only had about five bites of oatmeal at 7am and hasn't eaten anything the rest of the day. He has no fever but I think he just feels a little down. So we had to miss our library story time and craft today but it will do us both good to get some rest.
--I have another doctor's appointment today. I'm on the weekly appointments now but I'm hoping this will be my last one! My ankles are REALLY bad today and I'm so tired because I can't sleep. Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully she'll come sometime this week! If I hear anything new from the doc I'll post it on here but otherwise we're still just waiting...as patiently as we can!

Bad Mom Moment of the Day

So today was my first time "losing" Adam in a store. It was the most terrifying feeling ever and I feel like the worst mom, although I know it's probably happened to almost everyone.

I was checking out the clearance clothes at WalMart and Adam was walking around by me. I was keeping my eye on him like I usually do. Everyone knows I'm a more paranoid mom than most as it is so I couldn't believe this happened! I was looking for a 12 month size shirt when I looked up and couldn't find Adam anywhere. I had only had my eyes off him for a couple seconds. And he was wearing his flip flops so I wondered why I didn't hear him clomping off. I heard a noise and figured he was just in the aisle beside me climbing on the shelf (not climbing up the shelves but the big ones he can fit on. He likes to go hide behind things on these shelves). Well, that wasn't him. I looked all around and didn't see him anywhere. I was calling his name and he didn't answer. So I walked through all the aisles in the baby section but I was afraid to walk off too far in case he came back. This was probably only two minutes maybe but it sure felt like a lifetime! Right when I was going to go get some help I went back one more time and there he was standing by the cart. I asked him where he was and he said under the clothes rack. Was he there the whole time? Right under my nose where I had been looking at clothes? That's what he said so probably but who knows! I wasn't that panicked until it seemed like a long time with him not answering or jumping out from somewhere and then the thought entered my mind..."What if he walked down an aisle and someone took him?" Then I really got worried and about started crying when I saw him.

Please tell me this happens to everyone and I'm not as bad a mom as I feel like today!!

Now I wonder...
--do I always make him stay in the cart, even when he's screaming bloody murder to get down?
--do I make sure to go shopping when Bradley's home to watch him and I don't have to take him with me?
--do I take away his privilege of being independent, helping me push the cart and walking on his own?
--How do I keep this from happening again???

Random Thoughts

Just thought I'd ramble on a little bit until I'm tired enough to go to bed.

The movie today turned out to be very fun. Adam was really good and I think he enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. The movie was pretty funny and entertaining. He sat the first 30 or 45 minutes and watched the movie, holding his little bag of popcorn and drinking his lemonade. I forgot my camera of course but it would have made a cute picture. It's these times when I realize he's not my baby anymore but actually a little person. The movie was The Barnyard Movie. There were many parts where Adam would go "Whoa" (dragged out for many seconds). And it was cute when the coyotes came on (they were the bad guys) and Adam would start going "No, no, no", getting a little scared but I just told him they were big dogs. It worked and he was fine. They were kinda scary though! After the first half he started getting up and down, sitting on the floor, bouncing in the chair, but nothing too bad. It was one of the free summer movies they do for kids so the entire place was full of them and it wasn't like it was quiet or anything. Plus we had to sit in the second row so there weren't many people around us so I didn't feel too bad. We went with Adam's friend Leah and her mommy Sarah. Adam sure loves hanging out with his friends. The only bad part of the outing was after the movie when Adam decided to run out of the bathroom, me trying to run after him, and he's running around the lobby. But...most people were gone so I just stood there until he was ready to leave. I just can't run around after him right now!

Today we realized that Friday is the 13th. What a bad day if our daughter decides to come then but honestly I'm not that superstitious and wouldn't mind! I really want her to come and for me to get my body back. I'd love some sleep and normal feet again!

Adam is getting really sweet. I feel like we have a pretty good son here! He's so good about saying please, thank you, and you're welcome. Now the past week or so he says "sorry", sometimes even if he didn't do anything, and "what's wrong?" if I say ouch or something. He's so concerned about other people and making sure they're okay. Now if I could only get him to sleep a little later in the mornings and to eat a little better! :) I sometimes wonder how it's going to be when the baby gets here. I'm a little worried about Adam and how he'll handle not being the center of my world anymore...having to share that spot! And it's true how they say that second time mothers wonder how they can love the second child as much as the first. I love Adam so much more everyday since he was born, so much more than I ever thought possible, that it's hard to even think there's that much for another child. But I know there is...don't get me wrong. I'm excited about it! I'm just worried about giving each child their time with Mommy (and Daddy too). You're so busy with a newborn at the beginning figuring everything out and working around their schedule that I feel like Adam will be a little neglected. I guess he's young enough not to remember that when he's older and things will be fine I'm sure. Everybody does it. Some other funny things he says are "My did it" and "My okay" as in "I did it" and "I'm okay" when he does something or falls down. We're working on correcting it and he's getting it figured out but it's really cute!

I just think about Adam and how thankful I am that he's my son. I love his personality and how gentle and calm he mostly is. I know lots of boys are rowdy and wild and crazy, which Adam can be at times, but I love how he's, as the lady at the library said on Monday, "a gentle soul". He truly is.

Anyway, guess I'm tired enough to try and sleep some now.

Water Playdate

So for some reason I decided to host a water playdate at our house yesterday. It wore me out but the kids seemed to have a lot of fun and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The weather ended up being perfect...not too hot and no rain for once.
Today I'm taking Adam to his first movie in the theater. They have free movies up here during the summer for kids so I thought it'd be fun to see how Adam does. It's The Barnyard Movie (or something like that) so hopefully he'll enjoy it. I'm just going to make sure that we are in the middle of a row or I am blocking the end seat so I'm not chasing him up and down the aisle!
No new news on the baby front...she hasn't dropped and I haven't had many contractions yesterday or today. However, she hasn't been moving as much the past two days either so maybe she's resting up for the big day?? I'm really hoping it's soon. My hands are killing me...especially when typing and driving (yet I do them all the time!) and sleeping is pretty much impossible. Last night my hands actually didn't hurt during the night but my back and hips were killing me. It's always something I guess. I just have to remember that in a short week or two I'll be holding this little girl!

June 9, 2008

Why?

I copied these from my friend JaLisa's blog and thought they were funny enough to share with you all...

Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting dead?
Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?
Why doesn't glue stick to the bottle?
Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?
Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?
Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?
Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end on your first try?
When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, 'It's all> right?' Well, it isn't all right, so why don't we say, 'That hurt, you idiot?'
How come you never hear father-in-law jokes?

Really...they make sense...why do we do these things??

Also, I'm watching Nashville Star and there is a trio on there from Florissant, which is right up here by us. They were pretty good so I'll be watching and rooting them on.

No Luck!

So I'm still in the same position as last week...1 cm and "high and floating" as he said, meaning she's not dropped yet. He said it'll probably be a couple more weeks but I'm praying not! He even commented on how swollen my ankles were but I guess they aren't bad enough to be induced! Not that I want to be induced from stories I've heard.

I feel like a bad mom lately because I'm so tired and miserable Adam does a bunch of watching tv and playing by himself. It's just too hot outside for me to take him out with my swelling the way it is. And ever since he turned two he's a handful! We went to storytime at the library today and of course Adam takes off running out the automatic door to the parking lot and I have to run and catch him...not easy to do at this stage! Then carrying him to the car throwing a fit was a sight for others I'm sure!

At least some good news today is that I got an A in Cost Accounting! That was my really tough class...probably one of the hardest I've had the whole program but somehow I did it! I was fretting all day that I probably had a C after being the first one done on the final but I guess not!

Adam's Day Out!

So we've been wanting to take Adam to do something special before the baby comes and finally decided yesterday was a good day for it. We had a very busy day but Adam enjoyed it. We went to the Museum of Transportation and enjoyed looking at old trains and a few cars. We even got to ride a little train around. Adam wasn't sure about that at first and didn't want to get on but once he was on he loved it. They had a couple train tables inside to play with which was nice because Adam liked those and we could cool off. We enjoyed lunch there as well, nothing fancy but it was a fun outing.

After we got home and Adam took a very long nap we went to the swimming pool for the first time this year. We weren't able to stay very long but he had a blast. He was walking around in the water up to his neck and didn't want to hold on to Bradley. It was too cute! I, of course, didn't want to take my feet out of the water to get the camera so no pictures of that today but I'll get some soon.

No more baby news. She's been kinda quiet today. I keep waiting for her to drop and give me a sign of things to come SOON but no such luck yet. I'm really hoping for sometime this week so keep your fingers crossed and say some prayers! Have my checkup tomorrow so we'll see what he says.

I have my MBA!

So I'm officially finished with classes! Graduation was a few weeks ago so now I just have to wait for them to apply my graduate fees, pay them, and then receive my diploma before it's official. But no more school and I have an MBA! It feels weird to be finished. It really didn't take that long. I think it's a little hard to enjoy it with everything else that's going on but it's nice to know I did it!

I go to the doctor for a checkup on Monday afternoon. Hopefully he'll say I've progressed a little bit because I sure am ready to have my body back! Not to complain so much but it sure is miserable now, especially with the hot weather we've been having.

We got Adam's pool out this past weekend. We haven't taken him to the real pool yet but hopefully this weekend we can. I think he'll enjoy it once he's coaxed into actually getting in the water!
More potty news...Adam has been running around without his diaper every morning this week and every day, except today, he went on his potty! Sunday and Monday he just

went just a little bit. Tuesday he came back while I was on the computer and said "Mama, come look. Pee pee in potty." So I was figured it'd just be a little bit but when I got out there his potty was FULL! Then yesterday he went three times but he only went a little bit at a time. I can't figure out why he can't just let it all out at once. Today he just ran around the house fussing because he needed to go and knows not to go on the floor. Even after I put his diaper on he kept doing that and wouldn't go for about a half hour. Then he finally did and felt much better but this potty training thing is sure tough! I don't push him but it's a good sign that he's holding it and actually doing some on the potty now. Hopefully he'll get the hang of it. Now...let's hope the new baby doesn't ruin a good thing!
